COACHING KEY VOLUNTEERS TO BUILD MOVEMENTS
Workshop #3: The Coaching Process
Whether you are meeting with a Key Volunteer to talk about the movement or their personal walk with God, you can easily use “The KV Coaching Process”. Seen below, “The Coaching Process” is a chart moving from left to right with progressive questions that are intended to help draw out students’ thinking and help them determine their next steps. The coaching process can be used in an individual or group coaching appointment.
Take your time as you ask questions and prayerfully listen to their response. Feel free to offer occasional helpful insights, but be careful not to overdo it. You really want the Key Volunteer to own the process of decision making and problem solving. These are necessary skills they need as growing leaders. Lastly, look for ways to regularly affirm your Key Volunteer as he or she is processing.

Other questions you might use in your coaching appointment:
- Heart:
- What has God been teaching you?
- In what areas are you experiencing growth in your life?
- How would you describe your relationship with those in your community?
- Strategy:
- What are the results you are looking for from this conversation?
- Which is most important for you to talk about right now?
- What do you want to take away from our time?
- Explore:
- How would focusing on this topic help you?
- Tell me more about how this topic helps you as you build movements.
- What needs to happen for you to see progress in your plan?
- What would need to change to see this happen?
- What are some possible next steps you can take to see this happen?
- What are some other possibilities?
- Goals:
- Which of your options would be most effective in reaching your goal?
- Which of these steps can you realistically accomplish?
- Who can help you? Then ask, how can they help you?
- How can this be broken into smaller parts?
- Of your options, which would you need to do first?
- What might prevent you from seeing success?
- What obstacles might prevent you from following through?
- Review:
- How would you summarize our discussion?
- What will you do as a result of this conversation?
- What steps will you take and by when?
- How will you ensure that you actually do this?
- How will you be held accountable to follow through?
