DEVELOPING KEY VOLUNTEERS INTO LEADERS

Workshop #2: Getting Creative and Purposeful in Development

When considering “when and how” to help develop and connect with Key Volunteers over distance, keep in mind that it is a process that takes time.  We need to be creative and intentional in using the resources and opportunities that God provides, such as:

Natural (face-to-face) Connection Points

Mutual visits. When working from a distance, getting time face-to-face is important though not always naturally possible. You need to get creative and make a plan for connecting in person (you go to them, they come to you, you meet them in a new launch location, etc).

Conferences, projects, and retreats.  Some, but not all, natural connection points (conferences projects and other movement activities) which are available for you to use:

  • Summer project                •  Student leaders retreat             •   Evangelistic conferences

Assignment:  Think through and write down answers for the following questions.

Digital Tools for Connecting with Key Volunteers

There are a number of digital tools available to you and your Key Volunteer that can facilitate communication and distance learning. Communication tools such as Skype, Whatsapp, Facebook or VK are being used to send regular short messages of encouragement, helpful articles, Bible verses and a lot more. See these digital tools as your helper and use them frequently to stay connected with your Key Volunteers. Even when you can’t be there in person, you can let them know that you are thinking of them and praying for them!

Assignment:  Answer the following questions.

Now that you have more of a plan of how and when to develop the KV, next we’ll look at how the influence of wanting movements to be student-led affects our interaction with them.
