EXPLORE & NETWORK FOR NEW MOVEMENTS

Workshop #3: Person of Peace

Biblical Concept of a “Person of Peace” and the Key Volunteer Strategy to Launch Movements

God is preparing “people of peace” and Key Volunteers who will form the core team that will build the local movement.

In Luke 10:1-9 Jesus sent out the 70 to every city and place where He was going to go and tells them to look for receptive people.  These “people of peace” (v.6) or “God-fearers”, as Cornelius is called in Acts 10:2, will be used of God to open doors.  Whether students or volunteers, they can either become Key Volunteers or lead us to others who will become Key Volunteers – those He is giving a heart to reach their university for Christ.

In the above Biblical examples, we see that it is through these “people of peace” that God reached their household and others who became the core for the new growing church or movement.

Assignment: Read more in this short article (including a couple of exciting stories) on the Biblical concept of the “person of peace”:  Person of Peace

This is who we are looking for: a few people through whom God is working to form a team of believers who will build the local movement.

Take a moment and listen to Valerie share about her experience in God leading her to a “Person of Peace”.

Clarifying Definitions

Person of Peace – A person who is spiritually open to the gospel or favorable to God’s kingdom work.  God has been at work in their hearts so that they have potential to be a kingdom resource or kingdom worker.  A “Person of Peace” can be a non-believer who is open to the gospel and may become a Christian or is simply a person who is open to helping us in launching a movement by networking or resourcing.

Potential Key Volunteer (PKV) – A believer who demonstrates a heart for God and the Great Commission and has a vision for building a student-led movement on their university.  It is someone in whom we see an expressed willingness to share his/her faith and invite others to join with him/her.

Key Volunteer (KV) – A believer who has demonstrated by his/her actions a commitment to serve as a volunteer leader to launch and build a student-led movement at his/her university and has made an agreement with a coach to lead a movement of WIN-BUILD-SEND.

During the LAUNCH phase, it is important to initiate with many students at the university.  In the broadest sense, we are looking for anyone who is a “Person of Peace”.  We will continue conversations with them for networking, sharing the gospel and giving a challenge towards the Great Commission. Those who respond positively to a challenge will reveal that they are Potential Key Volunteers.  Among those Potential Key Volunteers, we will in time see who becomes actively involved and committed as the Key Volunteer or KV team who will launch and build the local movement.

Sometimes ‘people of peace’ are not believers yet and sometimes they are already believers who simply need additional encouragement and training.  Either way, we are looking to God to show us those who will own reaching the university and building a movement and be the ones through whom God will work to see His Kingdom built in that university.
